Handmade Large Wooden Origami Butterfly Ornament

In Japan, butterflies are symbols of transformation and metamorphosis, making them a meaningful metaphor for death, rebirth, and new beginnings. Japanese traditional beliefs say that a departed soul may return as a butterfly or be guided to the afterlife by these gentle creatures.

Beyond spiritual transformation, Japanese culture also associates butterflies with love, womanhood, and beauty because of their delicate grace. Butterflies are also linked to joy, personal growth, freedom, and good luck, making them a cherished symbol in art, storytelling, and everyday life.

Each wooden butterfly is handmade from laser-cut wood and authentic Japanese chiyogami paper.

This design features pink, yellow, purple, and white cherry blossoms and purple yukiwa on a black background with metallic gold details.

Lightweight and durable, these large butterflies can be displayed as hanging ornaments or placed on a desk, shelf, or decor arrangement. They are sealed with multiple coats for water resistance but should not be soaked or displayed outdoors. Prolonged direct sunlight may cause colors to fade. Please handle with care to avoid breakage.

Each butterfly includes an attached hanging ribbon. If you need a longer hanging length, just leave a note with your order and we'll include extra ribbon for you to tie to your desired length. You may also replace the ribbon with your own if preferred.

Every origami butterfly comes individually packaged in a protective bag and includes a symbolism card.

Dimensions (approx.):
Length: 3.5"
Width: 4.75"
Thickness: 0.50" (refers to how thick the butterfly is when laying flat)
Hanging Length: about 3.0" (hand-tied and may vary slightly)

Please see the size comparison image for a side-by-side comparison of the small and large butterflies.
